Some modern age Cake decoration trends

Cakes are decorated according to the season, occasion, clients’ specific demand or the ongoing trends. These trends come and go and again they are repeated. The earlier, simpler cakes have been replaced by modern high stylish cool and ramp ready masterpieces. Modern tools and techniques, availability of more appealing and attractive ingredients and use of social media as generators and messenger of trends and styles, have changed the entire dimension of food art.

In no longer past, the cake was the actual star not the outside icing covering; also the flavours were limited to chocolate, vanilla and strawberry flavours mixed in the butter cream icing spread over it.  But it is history now as the easy availability of fondant, gum paste and royal icings the cake covering is much convenient and more visually appealing. And as a cake flavour one has too many options as mango, fruit and nuts, caramel, coconut, rum and many other flavours or the blend of any two or more. Today, you can expect a layered cake with each layer and icing all of different taste.

The earlier cakes were mostly round or square shaped and today one can have it in any desired shape and pattern. Not only the geometrical but the shapes of almost all objects (human and animal figures, boats, boots, purses, buildings and anything) can be sculpted as the part of the cake decoration.  A cake artist can create any design as per clients’ wish and budget provided.

Now, come towards colours; replacing the boring plain cakes with rather unattractive colours of cake decoration, the modern age cakes have bright, delightful and vibrant colour schemes.  To maintain the health standards, all the food colours are made by using 100% food grade ingredients. Many chefs also prefer to apply the natural ingredients to get the desired colours.
The present day cake decoration is not prepared just for cutting and eating at the same time, it is about putting the whole creativity and imagination to sculpt and allure a ramp ready centre piece.
